Changing iPhone 5 to a different line

I will be getting my Iphone 5 tomorrow and i upgraded to the phone using my moms line which she has a basic phone and i want to swap the phone to my line because i have unlimited data and i wanted to keep it. I was wondering if now there is a faster way to do this rather than me having to open the phone and activating it on my moms line and waiting the entire 24 hours?

I think you have to wait the full 24 hours 🙂 I know it sucks we least been waiting years it seems like. I was trying to o the same thing has yours shipped yet.

You may be able to do it at 7 am the next morning.

After you activate it on your line, please check online to see if you still have unlimited data and post back here.  I want to do the same thing you're doing and I'd like confirmation that you can keep the unlimited data.  Also, after you re-activate your mom's basic phone -- are you able to drop the data plan and is the monthly fee the same as it was before?

Thanks soooo much!  I'm looking forward to ordering the iPhone 5 but I have to wait until the end of the month.

You will need a new sim when you put it on your line no matter how long you wait.

Yes they can mail one to you. You do have to request one first.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I just did this tonight.

Don't activate the new I phone5 when you get it.  Call Verizon and tell them what number you want the new I phone on.  They will ask you for the SIM number on your paperwork and the ESN number on the paperwork, or something like that, anyway they will walk you through what numbers to give them.  Oh and have your old phone, the one that you want the new I phone on turned off also.

This took all of about 10 min. to do.  Once the rep had switched everything over to my unlimited line, she told me to power it on and I was good to go.  I hooked it up to I Tunes and finished it up.

I transferred this new I phone 5 over to my unlimited data plan and everything works fine.  You don't have to wait 24 hrs or get a new SIM.  Just don't turn it on until you call Verizon and have them switch everything over.  This will work.  You will not loose your unlimited data plan.  Happy surfing on the new LTE network with your unlimited plan.

Hope this helps.

Are you sure about this? I thought you had to activate the new phone then swap out.

You do not need to activate the new I phone first.  Like I said, I did this last night.  Once you get the phone just call Verizon and have them switch everything to what you want.  They will switch the I phone SIM info over to the line you want it on.  That way the SIM will work right away on the line you switched too.

This works,  just call Verizon before you activate the phone.  Only takes about 10 min and you are up and running.

Hey everyone i finally received my iPhone 5 and i have a few updates.

I was able to keep my unlimited data and get the iPhone 5, i used my moms upgrade and later swapped the phone to my line. i first had to activated on her line wait about 30 min and activate her regular non smart phone back to her line and wait 24 hrs for the sim card to age. There is a faster way that i learned while at the Verizon store and that is either getting a new sim card from verizon (which they did not have) or going to Apple and getting one there (which they were also out of) but I'm happy to have the iPhone 5 and still have my unlimited data Smiley Happy
