Does the iPhone 5S automatically update roaming capabilities?  *228 doesn't work as it did on my iPhone 4.

LTE phones do not use *228, and it should never be used on those phones.  Roaming lists are updated automatically.   I believe it forces check on reboot or SIM reinsertion.
