Extending Contract But Losing Unlimited Data Plan?

As of right now, I am using an iPhone 4. I want to get the iPhone 5 with Verizon but I use well over 2 GB per month so I would need to have unlimited internet to avoid any extra charges.  I am not eligible for an upgrade until mid October, and it says that if I were to purchase the iPhone 5 before I am eligible it can extend my current contract; wouldn't that mean I could stay with the unlimited internet that I have now? Or is there a catch like always...

The only way I know how people can keep their unlimited data is if they buy the phones at full retail price. Otherwise, you'll have to bump up to a bigger data package.

I think you got it wrong. if you buy a phone before you can upgrade you have to pay full retail which means it doesent extend contract and you can keep your plan. Everytime you need a new phone to keep your plan you need to pay full retail.
