First and Second Verizon Bill:

Hello all,

To make a long story short, I want to know about my first bill with Verizon and possibly my second as well. So I ordered a iPhone 5, and got it October 5th. When I got the phone the first thing I downloaded was my Verizon to keep up with how much data I would be using but as I looked at the Usage Cycle it said "27/30 Days". I was a bit confused, but I'm guessing it says that because I did have to go through hell with faxing my social security number, ID, etc to some credit department at Verizon and the payment was taken on October 3rd. After seeing that I clicked on "View Bill" but nothing was available to pay, so I guess my billing cycle ends October 9th and now I have a bill that has to be paid by November 8th and it is $165.14. That bill was a huge relief for me because from what I heard everyone always says their bill comes up to like +$200 the first month. So as I'm getting ready to pay the bill I decided to click on view bill and this is what it said:

Monthly Access Charge: $108:00

VZW and other Charges/Credits: $47.33

Taxes, Govt surcharges and fees: $7.45.

How did my monthly access go to $108? I don't have a problem paying that but I'm trying to figure out if that $108 includes the billing cycle that said "27/30 Days"? I don't want my monthly access charge to be $108 but instead $100 (2 GB of Data and the normal share talk and text plan) as it was supposed to be. Then what other VZW charges are there besides the activation fee which is something like $24. I just don't understand where some of these numbers are coming from. When I clicked on the ? beside VZW and other Charges/Credits it states:

"Verizon Wireless Surcharges, Charges, and Credits

Includes charges to recover or help defray costs of taxes and of governmental charges and fees imposed on us by the government. Other Charges and Credits includes charges for products and services and credits owing"

If I'm reading this correctly, doesn't this mean I'm being double taxed? I want detailed information about "VZW and other Charges/Credits" because this is non-sense if I'm (we, the customer) are paying double taxes.

So thanks for reading and hopefully replying, maybe a Verizon Customer service rep. can help with this.

Hopefully you all can read this. I'm looking at it from my computer now rather than my phone and it says my billing cycle began September 9th (before the iPhone was available for pre-order). So Verizon believes I'm paying for service I didn't even had yet? They can kiss that dream good bye. I want a deduction possibly, I know I have to pay for a month and a month in advance but this bill just doesn't seem fair.

This is what is says on my phone (notice the bill period):

Your pay first month 1week plus a whole month for the advance from 10/9 11/8 everything is prorated the first month. It takes up to the 13th to see the next bill. Mins and data is prorated as well. I have the same bill cycle as you do.

You have to pay an activation fee.

Mins renew on the 9th meaning all activity from the 8th till the 8th counts. Same with the bill so if its the 5th it would be 27/30 no matter how many you been active for.

You NEED to look at the charge details and the other tabs from your computer screenshot to view the line by line charges.  That is where the bill is broken out for the partial month billing and activation fee or upgrade fee.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Hello everyone!

Thank you all so much for helping out with this question! I am happy to clarify and make sure all is understood about the first bill. Welcome to Verizon Wireless Metri96!!!!!

Now, when you establish service, your bill cycle date is chosen automatically and at random by the system. You could start service on the 1st but not have a bill cycle date until the 20th. In that case, you would get your first bill after the 20th that would include charges of the 1st through the 20th, then your month in advance (21st through the 20th of the next month).

Metri96, it looks like your bill cycle was chosen as the 8th. Which means on your first bill you would have charges from the 5th-8th, then the 9th through the 8th of next month. This is why you saw "27/30" because My Verizon just calculates how far away you are from the bill cycle date (not how long you have actually had service). On your bill, yes it does say September 9, however, on the second picture you see "Bill Period" is 10/2 to 10/8. This is your actual billed dates. Just like gina7239 said, you are only billed for the dates you had service.

Now, in terms of proration, I wanted to make sure that everyone knew about this in regards to your first invoice. During your first bill cycle (again it could be a couple days or almost a whole month) you are actually NOT prorated in your usage. You get the full 2 GB of data for those days. It looks like you were more than okay for those days.

Also, there is a $35.00 activation fee and that would have been included under the VZW and other Charges and Credits section. You would be able to view this online (not so much on the application) under the other tabs. You can also check out the printable bill that will also have everything laid out for you.

Please let us know if you need anything further! Welcome to VZW again!

Not applicable

I suppose the purpose of randomly choosing a billing date because if left to the customer most would choose the 1st of the month and Verizon probably wants to spread the billing around as to not get hit with everyone trying to pay all at once.

I always thought data was pro-rated like minutes; that's a sweet deal.
