When using the GPS service on the iPhone 5, do you use your data plan allocation? For example, if I am taking a trip that lasts 4 hours, will I continuously use my data plan allocation for the entire 4 hours if I use the GPS service on my iPhone 5? Any insight is greatly appreciated, as I would like to start using this feature more in the new year.

Thanks for the response.
Is the data usage only when the route is downloaded or is it constant throughout the planned trip?

I am guessing, but I would think it would also use data while driving to add the detail needed as you drive along.

If you download the map in advance I would assume it wouldn't use data.

I think through out the route because the location is using data to keep on showing where you are on the turn by turn directions.

Great question Cwik! I'm here to answer all your questions so that you are able to use tyoue GP
Charges apply to download, upgrade, and any usage including downloading maps/driving directions, Point of Interest, re-routes, and are billed per Data Package.

Data usage for VZ Navigator varies widely based on many factors, including:
Map information density (e.g. usage on a rural highway will be significantly less than usage on a city highway).
Use of 3D City content that was not previously downloaded (via Wi-Fi or data network) prior to starting the trip.
Length of route, number of reroutes, etc

I have no idea what was just said. The second paragraph sounds like a Yoda statement. Only it is said twice.
So, the question remains: Does GPS use data? I am asking specifically for a Galaxy S4 using the BringGo app in a Chevy MyLink equipped car (2014 Sonic)?

Yes, GPS uses data unless you already have a cached map of the area you travel in. Nokia Here Maps is great for offline, Google Maps however is not good. You can cache a map on GMaps, but you cannot use navigation. NHM uses offline (NO data) navigation.

Unless you know how to cache the maps ahead of time, you will use data the entire time.
Apple maps are known to use less data than Google maps on the iPhone. In fact, Apple maps uses very little data. Whatever you do, do not put it in the satellite view as that will use a lot more data.
