Hey i just got the iPhone 5 and i was hoping to activate the hotspot feature before i go on vacation for my laptop use, however i am unable to get it to activate for some reason. I click on the activate under cellular and it sends me to Verizion mobile home page thats it. I am part of a normal family plan with unlimited texting, and only 2 of 5 phones are smartphones in the plan. i did chat with someone from Verizon in the chat box and they said I should be able to do it without a extra charge, can anybody help me get it to work?
If you don't have the everything plan you have to add hotspot feature. It is like $20. I assume you did that. Then you go into settings general cellular then hotspot.
i asked that very question to the help chat and i was told i could do it, and with no additional charge charge.
It's coded to work that way. If you aren't on share plan it takes you to the home page or something similar. On my Razr M, it says "Checking subscription status" and if i'm not on the tethering plan it won't authenticate. I added the $20 plan (for now) and it works. Gives you an extra 2 Gig data to tether with or otherwise use as you please, it's combined with the other data on your plan.
I know they DO have a $0 tethering SKU they CAN add on your account (no add'l data allowance) if you call them and some have gotten it but I don't know what Oracle of Delphi you have to pray and sell your soul to for them to give it to you.
It's not free unless your on everything plan. If your not on the newest plan they aren't going to let you have it for free. Are you new customers? Do you have everything plan?
