How do I disable find my iPhone after resetting?

I am returning an iphone to Verizon for rebate on a purchase of a new phone. Instructions say step 1. reset phone. I did then they so oh yeah don't forget to disable find myphone, conveniently after telling me to first reset the phone. SO my question is do I need to disable find myphone after it has already been reset? If yes how do I accomplish that. If it helps when I went on the find myphone site it only shows the new phone not the old one. Does this mean resetting the phone disabled it or that I got lucky and it was never turned on?
