How do I get my iPhone to start up past the apple screen?

My son has I phone 5 and it is just staying on the apple screen what can I do if anything?

Thanks for reaching out, Shrtbgd.  We’ll get that phone working again for you. Before we complete the more complex steps, try this. Hold both the home and power buttons at the same time. When the Apple boot logo appears, let go of the power button but continue holding the home button. Many times this gets the phone back on its feet.  In the event that the phone is in the same position, then we are going to need to get the iPhone into recovery, and use iTunes to restore it.
