Hey there Smitty 66. It sounds like your iPhone 5 and your hotspot are not getting along. Its time for a mediation session to make those two best friends.
Are you having issues connecting other devices to the Verizon hotspot? Or is it just the iPhone 5?
If its just the iPhone 5 please try resetting the network settings,http://vz.to/OPvlTr. Once you do that retest the connection to the Hotspot.
