IPhone5 can only be replaced with the the 5C by Asurion

I have to say that I am really dissapointed in the scam that is being run. I have an IPhone 5 that was in a Lifeproof case but broke when it was dropped accidently. I tried to put a claim in to get the phone replaced and was told that I can pick a white or blue 5C. Apple is no longer supplying them with IPhone5. They are trying to sell it by saying it has a better camera and processor, unfortunatly it looks like a phone for a child. The reviews state that its a cheap phone dressed up in a cute package. So BEWARE if you have an IPhone5 this is what you will get. I work in a large company and have been talking to many of my co-workers that have Verizon (we get an employee discount) an no one was aware that they would end up with this phone. Everyone has started dropping the insurance becasue no one wants a 5C. After looking at my options I will go with Apple Care from now on to aviod this problem.

The iPhone 5C is kinda, sorta, technically a new product -- colorful, cute, with a variety of interchangeable color cases much like the recently released Motorola Moto X -- but under the hood it's really an iPhone 5 with a new paint job, and a cheaper price: $99 on contract (or even less, if you shop around).

To be clear, we loved the iPhone 5 when it first hit in 2012. It met every one of our needs, kept up with the competition, and presented a sweet spot of features: fast LTE wireless, a larger 4-inch screen, plenty of performance tweaks, a faster processor, and a really great camera. All of those features are back with the 5C.

The only new additions to the 5C (versus the old 5) are iOS 7 coming preinstalled, new LTE antennas that work with more international carriers, a better low-light-sensitive front-facing FaceTime HD camera, and a slightly increased internal battery versus last year's model -- better on paper, but not on a magnitude that most people would appreciate.

What the iPhone 5C isn't is a radical "budget" iPhone. It's not the affordable contract-free prepaid device some dreamed of. Instead, it's an iPhone 5 with a candy-colored polycarbonate shell. If you want something more advanced under the hood, the iPhone 5S is what you're looking for; if you want a bigger screen, nearly any Android phone will be a better choice.

Well if you want to be technical about it, if you want something more advanced under the hood you get an android as well.

You are actually getting an upgrade when going from iPhone 5 to the iPhone 5c. Your own words show that.

You did not think that assurion was going to give you the top of the Line iPhone 5s did you? When you get a replaced iPhone 5.

Good Luck

No I didn't think the would give me the 5s I thought  they would give me the  phone I insured the 5.  That's the phone I paid for not a plastic  phone that looks like it's for a little kid. If that phone was the option  when I made the purchase in May I would have waited. I just feel like it's how they are getting rid of a phone that most people don't want.

The supervisor and customer service rep agreed that the 5c option is making a lot of people unhappy and they would not want it either.

I am also putting this out there as a buyer beware. If you purchase an IPhone get the Apple care and not the insurance through Verizon. It's cheaper and you will get better service.

When phones are discontinued, they're no longer available as insurance replacements. The 5c is an upgrade to the 5. If you put a Lifeproof case on it, you won't even see the polycarbonate shell.
