So I pay for insurance every month. I was told that it would cover damages if something were to happen to my phone.

I use a case on my phone but, of course, I inevitably dropped it. This gave it a small crack in the screen BUT now there is a huge black dot (missing pixels) I imagine and it is making it really hard to do ANYTHING on my phone. I called Verizon customer service and they told me that I would have to pay $180 dollars to get it fixed. I asked the lady if it would cover water damage (just to see) and she said no. SO WHAT DOES THIS INSURANCE COVER?

Is this a joke? I pay every single month for insurance. I want my phone to be fixed or you will be losing a customer. I would understand a small payment of around $50 but $180? This is ridiculous and the customer service I've received has been abysmal.

The insurance has little to do with carriers. They all use the same underwriter. The prices and policy are set by them.

Yes insurance covers water damage. Extended warranty doesn't.

You are missing there are two insurances. One is the supplemential insurance that covers loss from theft or water damage or breakage. It has a deductible which I think you pay $169 for an iphone.

Then there is a one year warranty that covers the phone from defects not caused by the owner, first find out what insurance you are paying for. It sure does not make any sense to to file a claim with the wrong people. If the phone has any damage to it under Verizons manfacturer warranty they will charge you $300-$400 so be careful.

The above is for the extra insurance.

There are multiple different isnsurance plans offered. Without knowing which one you have, we can't answer your questions.

With that said, I don't sign up for any insurance before knowing what's covered.......whether it be home owner's, auto, motorcycle, life, phone etc.....

I purchased an I Phone 5 and the sales person talked me into getting Insurance for $ 10 a month. I was told this would cover everything from breakage to water and theft. My luck i did drop the device and had to pay the $169 dollar deductable. I wish the sales person had disclosed all teh facts and was not just out to make a sale.

I have concleded that the sales peoples will tell you anything to make to sale even if this means omitting or bending the truth.

I took out apple care. i paid 79.00 or 69.00 when my screen shattered because it fell on the floor face down.  the insurance from verizon wanted so much more.  i will use my apple care and cancel the insurance i have with verizon.

Apple care only helps with 2 claims. After that you pay out of warranty which is $199 for the 5 and higher and $99 for the 4S. Also you still paid a deductible. You also could have found places that fixed the screen for around that price without Applecare.

Much like car insurance if you break you sideview mirror it's cheaper to go and pay out of pocket than it is to go through insurance.
