Hi. I will be in Washington DC during December, and I was planning to buy an iPhone 5 there. As I understood, the Verizon one can be used internationally, and this is actually the model I need for it to work with the LTE that I have in my country. I was wondering if I could buy the iPhone at full price without a plan, and if yes, what are the methods of payments there? Do you only accept American credit cards or all major international credit cards? I have a VISA card.

You can buy the phone full price without a contract, pending the availability when you get here. Availability is somewhat tight now, but it may be better by the time you get here.
I don't know if there are any restrictions on international credit cards.

While the iPhone5 is unlocked for overseas GSM networks, it might not have the right radios to connect to a foreign LTE network.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Well I already asked my carrier (Orange), which uses the 1800 MHz bands, and they told me that I should get the A1429 model, which if I stand correct, Verizon offers.

Thanks. But is it possible for me to call a Verizon retail store and have one reserved for me while I'm still here, and go pick it up when I arrive in DC?

Well I guess I'll just have to go there and see. As long as I can buy the phone without a plan, and can pay for it without them asking for my credit score or something, I think it will be okay. Thank you all

Aren't they going to activate it on a plan before you can use it oversees. And is it true the iPhone is unlocked out of the box? Unlike the 4s because you definantly need it activated to eventually unlock Verizon version. Do we know that model is Verizon?

Yes, I need to activate it on the Verizon network for it to work. I'll see if they can activate it for me on the spot, or else I'll purchase a pre-paid sim card.
