Yes, I need to activate it on the Verizon network for it to work. I'll see if they can activate it for me on the spot, or else I'll purchase a pre-paid sim card.

This is to the community members, is there a such thing as a VZW prepaid SIM card?

There are prepaid plans, but only certain phones are allowed on it. I know none of the 4G LTE phones are compatible with the prepaid plan.

So no, I don't believe there are prepaid SIM cards or associated plans.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thanks, Ann!  That's what I thought.

To the OP, Verizon Wireless is a CDMA carrier and only uses SIM cards for the LTE-enabled phones.  Were you thinking of getting prepaid service while you are US?  If so, you may not be able to use a Verizon Wireless iPhone 5 on their prepaid service.

Can't this person be in a month to month instead. I thought the Verizon version is unlocked but you have to be on a plan to actually to use the unlocked part.
