You will need to activate global service. Dial *611 from your iPhone 5 or I can help you get your global service activated. The SIM will also need to be activated for international usage. The Iphone 5 uses a nano-sim card not a regular sim card. Most countries have sim cards for better local access and no roaming charges. Look for them when you get to the airport in China you are going to.
