Is anyone seeing extreme data overages with the Iphone5S?

My daughter upgraded from Iphone4 to Iphone 5S and has more than tripled data usage. She used her Iphone 4 just as much as she does this phone. She got rid of some of her apps. A verizon agent told us there is a problem with this phone bleeding data and even checked while on the phone with us and saw that it was bleeding data while connected to wifi. She was told to keep mobile data turned off, get rid of apps, etc... Of course we can't get a hold of the person who admitted it is a problem with these phones. Every other person in tech support blames it on social media. Makes no sense. She doesn't use her 5s anymore than she did the 4, plus she uses less apps and got rid of two of her social medias, yet she is using 12 to 13 gigs a month when she only used around 3 with the old phone. I see articles on the internet about this phone over using data, I've see several threads here, yet verizon refuses to admit that it is a glitch with this phone. I would love to join a class action lawsuit. I'm a long time customer, stuck in a two year contract with a company who refuses to admit when there is a problem.  We just want her to be able to return this phone and get a different phone. I feel like verizon doesn't care as long as  they are raking in the cash!

The only feedback I can provide is to go into Settings > Cellular > and toggle off the apps you do not want to use on cellular data. FaceTime is an app that often an app that will flip over to cellular IF while on Wi-Fi the connection is not strong enough. If this is toggled off for cellular that can help. Place the device on Airplane mode (data off) at night and turn on Wi-Fi if needed. Those are only suggestions based upon other comments I've read on the site.

Her previous phone was a 3G phone.  The 5S is a 4G LTE phone.  In different terms, she went from a Prius to a Suburban (gas=data)

a 4G LTE phone uses 2-2.5 times more data doing the same tasks.  video will run in HD rather than SD, the processor moves much faster, loading pages, etc, all of which uses more data than the older, slower phone.

This complaint/concern is across all carrier and platforms (android, Apple and Windows).  Apple's latest iOS 9 has been accused of using more data by far than previous iOS versions.

IF there were a "glitch in the phone " it is Apples problem and you should contact Apple for repair.  I don't think its a phone problem at all.

SOLUTION:  Open settings , Cellular data and note which apps are using the largest amount of data.  Those Apps should be restricted to wifi only by turning cellular off.   Social media apps like Facebook, snapchat, have settings within the app to limit video and pictures to wifi only.

if you don't have home wifi, then you need to cap your child's usage.  They don't need to watch youtube or post to snapchat, although they may not agree

IF the phone is not connecting and using home wifi, that's another problem and other solutions.  If that is the case, holler back
