So my father pre-ordered an iphone 5 but after messing with my Galaxy Nexus he said he would rather have that phone and asked if i wanted his iphone 5 when it arrived. I currently have unlimited data on my plan and I was curious, if I do activate the iphone 5 on my account when it arrives and give him my Nexus, am I going to essentially loose my unlimited plan? We are on totally different accounts, and I was told if i upgraded at full retail price I could keep my unlimited plan (I've read this may now have changed?) anyone have any insight?

No, you will not lose unlimited data. It will read on your account as customer provided hardware, so it does not affect your unlimited data or upgrade date.

Don't think you do because a lot of people are buying the iphone at full retail to avoid signing a new contract. Thus allowing them to activate the device and still keep unlimited data. Although you may want to call Verizon just to verify

Ive read conflicting information in regards to this question from a few different places. I understand you can buy it at full retail and still retain unlimited data, however ive also heard if the phone is: activated on a different account, deactivated, and re-activated on an account with unlimited data that the unlimited account retains unlimited. Guess we'll have to wait and see if anyone successfully manages to do this. I've used another accounts upgrade before, but didn't have to worry about unlimited prior due to being grandfathered in.

Are you on the same account?
When you get the iPhone go to the store because there both going to need new sim cards for the phones associating with the number you want them on. The cards are base on the number and the device since the both have different card sizes.

No we are on totally separate accounts. I guess I'll have to bring both to the store and have them set this up, thanks for the replies. I was told 3 different answers from calling verizon on this issue so I honestly have no clue what will happen when I attempt this.
