My phone just shuts off when outside

The past few days been working outside in the cold and my phone shuts off. It will not turn on unless I plug it in then it sayd I have 80-85% battery left.

I know the importance of understanding how your device may function when the temperature changes, Tomalan55. iPhones do have a comfort zone for temperatures, and depending how cold it has been the past few days your phone may be trying to protect itself.
