Hi Iphonenewbie!!! I understand wanting your contacts all in one place. Regarding the deleted contacts, did you previously have those contacts saved somewhere else like Backup Assistant? If so, check out http://vz.to/1cWAejA to set up Backup Assistant and get any contacts saved in our system back.
Have you synced your phone to iTunes on your computer before this happened? Each time you sync your phone to your home computer, it should backup all information on your phone, including contacts. It may be able to restore from a previous backup. Check out http://bit.ly/1btIJ4F
