Stolen iPhone 5

Hello. I just bought an iPhone 5 earlier today and it was stolen when I was waiting for the bus. I'm so mad at myself because I was so careless and I earned the money for several months just to get the newest iPhone.!! Ugh. What do I do now? I barely used it. I only entered a few contacts and didn't yet enter an auto lock passcode! What should I do?????Will Verizon replace this stolen iPhone? How much would it cost to buy a replacement? Can they track it? I bought insurance and warranty. What if I decide to not get a phone until I get more money? Would I still have to pay verizon since I signed a contract? Please answer all questions. Thanks.

Oh my goodness!

I am so sorry to hear that your new phone was stolen! I am sooo glad that you have insurance though! Now, you will have to file a claim with Ausrion by calling 888-881-2622. There would be a deductible to be paid, which caries depending on which model you have. After that, they would be able to let you know when you could get a phone. You can also log online to http://bit.ly/07CrqPK to file a claim. You would want to suspend your line right now of course to make sure that you are not charged for any unauthorized charges. You can do that by calling 800-922-0204 in the automated system or loggin on to your My Verizon account and suspending.

I would absolutely suggest trying the stpes the TomCat suggested in regards to getting your information or trying Find My iPhone to locate it! I hope that you get your device back but in the meantime, please let us know if there is anything more we can do! Thanks!

you can call VZW up and they will deactivate your phone or you can do to icloud.com and access the "Find My iPhone" app. Just log in using your Apple ID. From there you can lock your phone, see it's current location, send out an annoying sound in hopes of locating it, and some other things. Also, a message to appear on the lock screen and have it dial JUST the number you input. Chances are the person who stole your phone turned it off so tracking it may be somewhat difficult but Find my iPhone is worth a shot. Your online account is pretty close to real time so another thing to check is your call log through your account to see if the person who stole your phone made any calls.

I have never purchased insurance on a phone so read through your warranty and it will say whether the will replace a phone due to it being stolen. It should also state details of cost to replace, if any. Chances are you would have to pay full price if you want to replace it with another iphone 5. Your contract is locked in for 2 years so the terms of the insurance and warranty you purchase will outline everything. Also call a VZW rep but oftentimes they are not fully sure of the details so you may get differing stories from multiple reps.

What insurance did you get? I don't believe AppleCare will cover stolen phones. Yes, you will have to pay Verizon if you choose to wait to get another phone. You can either pay your monthly bill, or pay the ETF and cancel the account.

Keep in mind, once you report the phone as stolen, the phone will be unusable on the Verizon network. If you later FIND the phone, you will not be able to use it, as Verizon will have blacklisted the phone and will not allow it on their network.

My wife's iphone 4s was stolen about 2 months ago. The rep she spoke to was very helpful and simple deactivated the phone so it basically could not be used if he tried. Now. this would not prevent the thief from removing the SIM , jailbreaking it, or something else but since the 4s was locked it did limit the kid to an extent if he was not very technology savvy. Luckily, she had the kid on camera who stole the phone and knew who it was.  She filed a police report, cops went to his house and recovered the phone in just a few shorts hours. It did not have any damage to it other than he discarded the Otterbox (guess he was not a fan of the purple and white). Once it was back in her possession, she called VZW and they were able to activate it again without any additional cost or much leg work.

And most insurance policies that do cover theft will require a police report.   You need to check the policy you bought to see if theft is covered and do what is needed.  Contact Verizon directly rather than using this peer-to-peer forum

You have to pay $169 or $199 i think depending which gigs you have. If you complain 2 times in 1 year about being lost or damage you might be removed from the insurance. Did you get the total equipment protection?

Other things to check:  In some cases, home owners/renters insurance may cover this.  Most policies probably specifically exclude this type of electronics, but worth a check.

How did you pay for the phone?  If you used a "premium" credit card, some of those also cover against loss or damage in the first X days.

If your iPhone is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should do in advance - before you lose it or it's stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

1. Reporting a lost or stolen Apple product: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2526

2. Find My iPhone: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8

3. Recover data from stolen iphone: http://goo.gl/fepX2
