Switching At&t to Verizon

A friend of mine recently had the iPhone 5 (white) from at&t, and she is getting another phone this Christmas so she was gonna give me her iPhone 5. However, I am a Verizon customer. Would verizon activate the iPhone 5 from at&t on their network? I hear it is a universal phone. Quick replies please, thank you.

It's not a universal phone atat is for atat Verizon only on Verizon. Different technology.
