Why do people (and Verizon) find turning off cellular data as a solution? My Android is a smart enough smart phone to know if it is connected to wifi to not use cellular data, why can't my sons Apple phone? I personally believe this is an Apple issue, but I do believe Verizon should stand behind the products they sell and Verizon should be helping us get this issue resolved from Apple.
Another reason I prefer Android.

U.S. Supreme Court Limits Class Action Lawsuits - Opinion - Ridgefield, Connecticut | Patch
I don't know how many times I have to point this out.
NO class actions are allowed.
The Attorney Generals Office may be a good start, the Public Utilities Commission in you state may be another, or like in NY the Consumer Protection Board.
Another point I want to make. Verizon does not make the Apple iPhone or any devices. It would be Apple Inc. that would have to investigate the data issue.
For the record, I own 2 iPhone 5S devices and I never use more than 25 MB on each per month. I am constantly as much as possible on WiFi. I have cellular data off. And I really don't have to since I also have unlimited data on both devices.
But I don't have that data drain as I see listed on the forum. I see posts saying its not just iPhones.
Good Luck

If you have unlimited data, you have no business in this thread really.

I have as much right as you do. I own two iphones
The data drain and over charges are not happening to all iPhone users. Also it seems that data overages is not just affecting iphones. Which is correct information.
Have a nice evening!

Hi kandelaner!
I definitely understand your concern about the data usage on your devices. The 4G iPhone devices are a little different, by design, from Apple, the manufacturer. When using Wifi, if the device goes to standby mode (when the screen goes blank), cellular data is used by default. I suggest that when using Wifi, please go to settings/cellular data, and turn off cellular data.
Let me know how this goes for you!

Here is the situation that I am experiencing and some of you may see the same if you take a close look at your data usage details. My daughters phones in normal use for texts, etc. are using data at extremely low data. Then, on random days, we will get a string of 4 or 5 occurrences of 20MB to 100MB data usage, mysteriously spaced at 6 hour intervals over a 24 hour period or so. This is what is sucking up so much data, and it seems to occur whether the phones are on wi-fi or not. Where are these data hogs coming from? How can I tell what is causing these occurrences so that I can get rid of them.

Hi gwf_asf,
Let's look into this! Is cellular data turned off completely on your daughters phone? When did you begin to notice the data increase? Do you experience the issue with all of your phones or specifically your daughter?
Thanks,

In response to your questions regarding data usage. We have asked our daughters to turn off cellular data when they are in a wifi coverage area (at home). Whether this is strictly followed at all times, I am unsure.
#2 -- Over the past several months, we have been ending up close to or over on data usage on each of the phones with 2GB limit, Over the past 3-4 months there has been an overage on 1 or the other almost every month. To get an idea of how this was happening, we began looking at data usage details on the website and noticed these patterns of huge amounts of data being charged against the phone usage (always in 6 hour spacing).
#3 -- On closer inspection, this appears to be happening over all of the phones we have with Verizon IPhone 5, IPhone 5S and Android. As a matter of fact on the Android phone, just yesterday, we received data charges of over 0.5GB in a series of these data bomb events. Shown is detail from the web of the usage pattern. The highlighted sections are the patterned charges. These appear to be coming from an outside source. Can Verizon tell where these data instances originate from? If I can find out where they are coming from, I will stop it.
