Bonjour fellow members, I have a quite inane question. I have a iPhone 4 8GB with a contract end date of May 2014 but I really want/need the iPhone 5s 16GB. Now, I don't know the process of terminating my contract and then getting the iPhone 5s but a rep told me it was simple. So in order for me to get a iPhone 5s, what do I need to do? Terminate my contract? Add a new line? What else is there to it?
The sole purpose of this thread is to get an average of how much it is going to cost and what are the steps in getting the iPhone 5s 16GB in my situation. Thank you guys, hope you all have a wonderful day.

Option 1
Add a new line (new 2 year agreement), and get the 5S at the subsidized price. Then cancel the primary line (with the 4 on it) and pay the term fee
Option 2
Purchase a 5S at full retail. Then add the phone to your current line, thus avoiding the ETF.
So you just need to figure out which option is cheaper. Either $199 + ETF or $649.99 for the 5S (Retail)

1. If you terminate your contract before it is completed, you will have to pay the ETF which will be $350 minus $10 for each month you actually completed.
2. If you start a new contract immediately thereafter (within 60 days, I believe), you will be placed back on your previous contract. This is to prevent what is known as "false churn".
3. You could instead purchase the new phone at full retail or from a third party source.

Bernard.A,
I understand your desire for an iPhone 5s! Let's review additional options. Yes, you can add a line and purchase the iPhone 5s. You can also purchase the device at full retail or through our Device Payment Program here http://vz.to/ZILXBT Please share if you are experiencing issues with your iPhone 4 and would like to complete troubleshooting. Thank you.

Who am I kidding, option 1 is cheaper. Because even the full $350 term fee plus the subsidized $199 price is cheaper than full retail of the 5S

I'm thinking of adding a new line with the 2 year contract. But if I cancel the line with my iPhone 4, will I be able to get the same number on my new primary line with the iPhone 5s?
So cancel my contract with the iPhone 4GB -
ETF $350
$190 (I payed for it 19 months now)
= $160 to cancel and terminate contract. Correct?
New added line to the new iPhone 5s 16GB -
$199 w/ 2 year contract
Is there a fee to add a new contract? Or? What are the other costs?
Thank you all for the responses.

Well there will probably be $35 activation fee. Also are you adding a second line or by "new added line" do you mean a line to replace your old one? I don't think you're allowed to sign up again for 60 after you cancel your contract. And you won't be able to keep your old number. Wouldn't it be easier just to wait until May?

Just be sure to check the issues with the 5s regarding data charges...

By "adding a new line" I mean replacing the old one (my current one). Also thank you for your response. Yeah it is easier to wait till' May, it's highly probable I will actually.

Data charges?
I currently pay $30 dollars a month, I think it's for 2GB. I also have unlimited texting, but my parents pay for that portion because our whole family uses phones.
