Upgrading to iPhone 5 and keeping unlimited data

So I've been hearing about using another phone line that is eligible for upgrade (a dumb phone) to get the iPhone 5 then transferring it to a smartphone line to keep unlimited data.

This is my situation: So my grandpa's phone is ready for an upgrade and has a dumb phone. I have a Droid X with unlimited data ready for upgrade and on month to month. I don't want to lose my unlimited data, so will I be able to use my grandpa's upgrade to get the iPhone 5 and then transferring it to my line to upgrade my Droid X to the iPhone 5 even if my two year contract is over?

Yes, as long as your grandpa's phone is eligible for an upgrade and your grandpa's current phone is indeed a dumb phone. ***DO NOT*** transfer the upgrade from your grandpa's phone to your line with unlimited data. You would order the iPhone 5 under your grandpa's line and select the lowest tiered data package, which would be 2 GB for $30. Once the phone arrives do not attempt to turn on the phone what so ever, instead speak to a Verizon Rep in store or over the phone. They will go through the steps in getting the iPhone 5 switched to your line with unlimited data. Your grandpa's dumb phone will be reactivated and the 2 GB Plan that was originally selected for the upgrade will be canceled out, BUT your grandpa's phone is now entered into a NEW TWO YEAR AGREEMENT and your status will stay month to month...

I am not questioning why you want to do this, because you will have to do some things to get this accomplished, but how much data do you use in a month on average? Is it worth the hassle to do all this to keep unlimited data when you may never have used over 2GB in a month? Just a question.
