Voicemail Name Identification

Back in the day, I used to hit *86 to access my voicemail settings. With my iPhone 5, no worries as I have visual voicemail.  I did hit *86 today and noticed something, you can change your password and greeting, however as I recall you used to leave a name to identify yourself when calling others.  Is that option no longer available?  Does anyone recall what I am talking about?  It is like if I called you, your voicemail would say call from John Doe received at XX:XX.  Does it no longer do that?

The iPhone voice mail system is different than the "regular" voice mail system. So some of the options you were used to with the old/regular system do not exist on the iPhone at this time. No idea if there will ever be any additional features added or an option to upgrade to a premium system (for example, some people that used to subscribe to VZW's Visual Voice Mail for other devices would like the option to subscribe to something similar for the iPhone...but to date that doesn't exist).

I understand.  It's not a biggie, I just noticed it was no longer an option when I hit *86.

You can do your own greeting settings when you press phone then voicemail.

The OP is either referring to the voice mail announcements of the caller you would get when checking your voice mails (if the caller was also a VZW customer) or  the way that you could choose to have a personalized greeting, the pre-recorded greeting that stated the caller has reached your phone number, or the one where a pre-recorded greeting said something along the lines of "You have reached the voice mail of...." and your voice was inserted stating your name. This is not an option on the iPhone's Visual Voice Mail system. You can only select Default or Custom.

Ringfinger,

You can actually go through your device to set up a personal greeting for your iPhone's visual voice. Select voicemail>Greeting>Custom: Follow the prompts.

Thank you,
