When I am in a call with someone at times when I am talking I cannot hear the other person respond and I end up having a one way conversation with myself. After a short time the issue resolves itself. Why does this happen?

When I am in a call with someone at times when I am talking I cannot hear the other person respond and I end up having a one way conversation with myself. After a short time the issue resolves itself. Why does this happen?
