Why can't I send or receive text messages?

IPHONE5 will not allow me to send or receive text messages.  Also will not connect to internet and keeps switching from 3G to 1x at top of screen..

Try this first, it will not harm your device.

Hold down the large App Button and the power button on the top right together, hold them until you see a white apple in the window and then release both buttons. The phone will reset. After a few minutes the login window will be back as normal.

Go to settings messaging and make sure iMessage and send as mms toggle buttons are on.

While in the settings make sure cellular data is turned on.

Then try to send a text message and access the internet. If you can all is well.

If you cannot call *611 or 1-800-922-0204 and have Verizon support tray and troubleshoot the issues or do a system reset from their end.

You can also go to any Apple Store and have them troubleshoot it if you have owned it less than a year purchased new.

Elector provide some great trouble shooting steps. Did you already try that? Are you getting an error message when trying to send a text or access the Internet? What's your zip code?
