I do have a strong wifi signal. I click on the apple store icon & I get a blank page. At the bottom of that page are 5 icons, "featured", "top charts", "explore", "search" & "updates". When clicked on the icons do nothing. UPDATE: while I was typing this post I got a notice on the blank page that one of my aps has updated.
I have a couple more questions so I hope someone with patience helps me.

This is an Apple problem, not a Verizon problem.
You can try deleting the Apple Store and reinstall it. Otherwise consider Apple may be making changes or swamped with the new phone coming out.

It turned out that "somehow" the ap store was restricted.
I went to Settings, General, Restricted then unrestricted the ap store.
I appreciate your input tho.
