iphone 5 with unlimited data plan

I have unlimited data on my iPhone 5. Used other line for upgrade. When i try to make a call it displays 3g or lte full connection but as soon as I press call the 3g or LTE indicator goes away, like it disconnected, but still makes the call. It did this on my unlimited data plan with iPhone 4s. Is this throttling? Every time i go to place a call, even displaying 5 bars the 3g or LTE indicator dissapears??? Also I seem to have bad call quality and slow text sending with 4s and iPhone 5.

The iPhone 5 on Verizon is not able to have simultaneous data and calls unless on wifi. Therefore when you are making a call, those indicators should not be visible.

Those indicators are not letting you know you are using data, but just that you are connected to the data network. Since the iPhone 5 on Verizon is not capable of simultaneous calls and data, as soon as you hit "call" to initiate a call, you are disconnected from the data network and therefore those indicators disappear.

ok thanks for the info!

How would I know if i'm being throttled? Also, should I consider dropping my unlimited data and go with 4g lte data plans?

Currently, Verizon does not throttle 4G phones.

Since you didn't have to make a switch away from unlimited data when you used the upgrade from another line, I see no reason to change to one of the tired data plans or the new Share Everything plan.

Yes,  stay on unlimited, unless you a) don't use much data and b) do use a lot of calling minutes outside of any Friends and Family plan.  Then, switching to Share Everything might make sense as minutes are unlimited.

People can keep (at least for now) their unlimited data if they pay full retail price for a new phone or buy it from someplace like ebay (anywhere that doesn't require signing a new two-year contract).  If I understand the last part of your post correctly ... any smartphone that is activated on Verizon's network requires a data plan.

You do realize that unlimited data is a data plan?

You MUST have a data plan if you have an iPhone on the Verizon network. If you currently have a smartphone on the Verizon network with unlimited data, you can keep your unlimited data if you pay full retail for a new phone, iPhones included.
