not a happy iPhone/Verizon customer right now

Purchased an iPhone 5C a little over a month ago and for the first time ever had to bump up my data plan to avoid overages.  I have seen all the other conversations on this topic so I know it is a widespread issue.  What I don't know is what is Verizon/Apple going to do about it?  All the suggestions about turning this off or that off defeats the purpose of having a smart phone.  I am seriously considering changing both phones and carriers.

Vivster We don’t want you to leave us! Data usage can be explained and managed so that you are able to enjoy your phone. Did you have a 4g device before activating the 5c? Did you install software? Download contacts,pictures,videos,email etc?
