the iPhone 5 doesn't allow for voice and data transfers at the same time. Not sure about the text messages though, unless it is the Apple sandboxing of its operating system is in play.
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

As mentioned, you can't use data while on a call (unless you are using wifi at the time) with the iPhone 5. You can, however send and receive texts while on a call so I don't know why you would be having issues with that. But the data and calls is not a new issue...AT&T spent a lot of time advertising this as a plus on their side when VZW started selling the iPhone so even if you were never an iPhone user before now the information was virtually common knowledge.

Looks a tiny bit revisionist to me! AT&T's ads addressed this shortcoming on the CDMA network. It's been fairly common knowledge since that all Verizon's LTE phones do support Voice/Data while on LTE, and some, like the Thunderbolt, also on 3G. So the iPhone 5 really is an unexpected outlier here, as demonstrated by all the forum posts (here and elsewhere) when this was discovered.

Ummm...it is my understanding that not all of the LTE phones on VZW allow for Voice and Data. Regardless, the issue is not new at all as far as the iPhone (LTE or not) on VZW has been to date. So technically, for most VZW users the inability is not unexpected. I believe there was hope for those that truly care that the ability would exist on the LTE iPhone 5 but it's not a feature that the iPhone, the phone that we are referring to ever had (I never mentioned any other LTE device or any other device...the question was about the iPhone 5 on VZW...the response was about every iPhone released on VZW). So no, there was absolutely nothing revisionist about my response.

It's simple: Your Glorious Overlord Apple, led by His Supremeness Timothy Cook, designed the CDMA (Verizon, Sprint, etc) version of the Revolutionary iPhone5 without this feature, as true CDMA Apple disciples simply don't need it!
(yes, I'm being sarcastic, but it's true, the answer is as simple as "that's how Apple designed it").

Hi gunyer69,
Thanks to the community for your responses! It's true, you should be able to use messaging while on a call. When it comes to iMessage, however, this is something that uses data. Are you iMessaging or using regular text messages? Please advise, thanks!
