Apple's support said to unlock my cell phone to use warranty. Why?

Hello! i bought an iphone 6 last december in Orlando, at apple store, and i'm using the cellphone in Brazil without problems. But i need to use warranty by apple, and in contact with apple's support, they said that i need unlock the cellphone by Verizon because probably it will be reset, and maybe come locked.

I already use the iphone with other cell phone company here in Brazil, and i just would like to know if i really need unlock my cell phone to use the apple's warranty.

Verizon iphones are sold unlocked.  There is nothing to unlock.

Is this Apple Brasil  saying this?  They may not know Verizon policies and may assume it is locked as many U.S. Phones were until recently.

I appreciate you reaching out to us about this. Good news is we don't lock any of our 4G LTE devices. Including the iPhone. Is it possible that they were referring to Find My iPhone? This would most likely need to be turned off before the replacement device is activated. But other than that, the phones are not locked on our end.
