my question is can I use old sim card or do I need to use one they sent with phone- phone works ok but has broken screen

Yes, you can (and should) use your own SIM as long as it still works.

Thank you for reaching out to us. I am happy to answer your question about using your existing SIM Card. You should certainly attempt to use your original SIM Card, unless it does not fit or is causing service disruption in the new device.
