My brand new iphone has started giving me the error message the device isn't supported when I start to charge it? Can this be fixed?

Are you using OEM cable and power adapter? Some 3rd party cables aren't supported...found this out trying to buy cheap ones from eBay...

if its the charger that came with the phone it may be 1 of 3 things. the first being it could be defective. the second it could have been used to point of stress(i.e. its plugged in and the cord is being tugged). and the third is it could be a bug in the operating system. though rare it can happen and as always is highly recommended to be on the latest operating system update.
