I got my 2 year upgrade and replaced my iPhone 6s with a new iPhone 6s. The battery does not last long - I have to plug it in almost hourly. Since I just got the phone a week ago and the problem has been present since the phone arrived, is the phone a dud?

Smartphones usually feature a tool that gives a general breakdown of power consumption by process/app. Check to see what your iPhone is reporting.

Depending upon the results, removing an app or two, a factory default of the iPhone...or...queuing up in line for a battery test & replacement would be avenues to consider.

Thanks for the reply!

I had done all of that the first day thinking it would help. Since I'd upgraded to 128 gb I figured I'd be able to have more apps I wanted, but the battery issue is actually a bigger issue.

I didn't think a brand new phone would need the battery replacement, but I suppose I will need to go that route, which is frustrating because it creates work on my end rather than simply getting the phone and being able to move forward.

I'm glad you got a new phone. I've spent many hours trying to per-fect my iPhone battery usage. I can give you a few tips that have worked for me. In theory, with a new device/battery (assuming you bought a brand new device) the battery should work well.

  • Background app refresh - turn it off unless you need it on for various apps. I turn it off for all apps and when I go to use Strava I turn it back on. Settings > pull down from top for search > type background > tap Background App Refresh > turn to off or leave on and turn off individual apps.
    • Note: when Low Power Mode is on Background App Refresh is auto disabled
  • Screen brightness plays a big part, which I'm sure you know. I turn my brightness way down inside
  • If you don't use "Hey Siri" turn this off under Siri & Search in settings
    • Another feature disabled when Low Power Mode enabled
  • Use Low Power Mode
    • As mentioned above it toggles various items off you may not think to

There are more drastic measures you can take but not for the average user. e.g. if you don't need cellular put your device into airplane mode. You will be amazed how long your device battery lasts. If I'm at a car show and need to ensure my phone lasts all day to take photos I put it in airplane mode. I of course turn off airplane mode if I need to make a call or send a text, etc.

Thank you for already taking the time to complete those steps to resolve your battery concerns, CRIMAR83.

Was the replacement a Certified Like New Replacement?

Do you have the most recent software on your 6s? There was a recent update on 1/8/2018. Go to Settings > General > About >Version

Hello,

I keep getting an error message when trying to visit the forums.

The phone is new, not a like new replacement or refurbished.

I have the most recent, updated software.

These are great suggestions, bd94s10. We want to ensure your new phone is working properly, CRIMAR83. I know you mentioned that you had done the previously suggested steps on the first day, but since then switched to the higher memory iPhone. To help identify any impacts to your battery life, please go to Settings>Battery, and review the apps listed. Are there any apps that stand out for high usage?

You also mentioned you moved to the higher memory iPhone to have more apps that you wanted. Can you share details about how you normally use your phone, as usage habits do impact your battery life.

What error message are you experiencing? Are you trying to access this forum, or a different forum?

Hello,

I have not been able to access the forum where I posted my issue.

I had a 6s I got several years ago and just upgraded to a new 6s almost two

weeks ago. I have not turned in this new phone for a different one because

I've been trying to solve the battery issue. However, it's not becoming too

time-consuming to try to rectify it.

Since I've had this new phone I have not added any additional apps because

I fear losing more battery via usage.

I did a check this morning: in 30 minutes, the phone went from 100% battery

to 87% and I did not use it at all during that time.

I apologize for any confusion, but we're showing your responses in the same forum post as your original one. Was there another post that you created as well?

I can definitely understand being concerned by a drop in battery that is greater than you expected, especially since this is a new device. Let's talk more about what could be impacting this concern. There have been a few software updates for iOS since the iPhone 6S originally launched. Being on an old software version can cause battery drain. What software version are you currently on? You can check this via Settings> General> About> Version. Please complete any available software updates.

Many times when we get a new phone, we move all of our prior phone's information to the new device, and while that can be convenient, it can also potentially carry over prior device issues as well. How did you restore content to your new phone? What did you carry over from your previous device? Were you already having battery concerns on your previous phone?
