iCloud back-up not completed

I'm trying to follow the steps to set up my new iPhone 11 (from 6s) and when I get to the part to back up on icloud, it tells me the last backup  could not be completed. I had space and I even bought more space, so there is plenty. I'm stuck on this step. Can anyone help? Thanks!

calijuli, we want to congratulate you on upgrading to a new device! Making sure you are able to seamlessly back up your new device is important. Allow us the opportunity to investigate. Can you please let us know if you are backing up your device directly from the device settings? Or are you connecting your device to a computer through iTunes?

Contact Apple support, iCloud isn't a Verizon service.
