iTouch pad rarely works

the iTouch pad on my iPhone 6 recognizes my fingerprint immediately after I scan it but then stops recognizing it shortly thereafter (within a matter of minutes it seems).  When I first got my iPhone it worked almost perfectly now if hardly ever works.  Did one of the OS upgrades (it started with OS8x) screw it up?  Can it be fixed?

try deleting the fingerprint you have stored and scan your finger again

if that doesn't work do a backup and then reset your phone

rosemiller, accessing your phone via fingerprint scanner is super convenient. I use this feature myself on a regular basis. Have you tried to go to Settings >Touch ID & Passcode > tap on the finger print, delete it, and then re-add it? Also, have you tried any other fingers? Do they work? Share details.

Ditto fernandobot

I have read the fingerprint sensor loses its "touch" every few weeks For some users.
