receiving duplicate text messages

Let’s see what’s causing the issue with your messages. Does this occur with iMessage and/or standard message? When did the problem begin? Does the issue occur with all or a recipient?

regular iPhone message. been occurring for months, i  am only messaged by one person

it happens when they message me when my phone is off. I turn it on and duplicates come to me.

Do you mean a messages received with the iMessage application, or the regular text message application (not iMessage)? What application do you use for regular (not iMessage) text messages? What is your iOS version?

Duplicate messages can certainly get annoying! Let’s keep at this for you. Do they get duplicates of the message you send them? Are all your apps up to date with your phone? Are calls working normally to the other person?

   fiery, do you happen to be sharing a iCloud account? If so this could possibly be the reason?

You could go into Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and tap on it, your number should be the only one showing in there.

All apps are up to date.

The other person does not receive double messages from me.

Phone calls work fine.

I rely on my messages everyday. Since this is not occurring with standard text messaging, we can focus on the iMessage feature as the culprit. iMessaging is a feature provided by Apple. When you turn your phone on, Apple may not be getting the notice that the iMessage has been received on your phone. I would highly recommend reaching out to Apple to further assist.
