$20 UPGRADE fee for full price at Apple store

I posted earlier but called this the wrong thing - why am I being charged a $20 UPGRADE fee for a phone that I'm buying at full price from the Apple store. Isn't this considered the customer "bringing their own device"?

I agree upgrade fee on phone you pay full price free and clear is bogus.

If you by the SIM free version from Apple, there is no upgrade fee, then just put the SIM card from your old phone in the SIM free phone. However, SIM free iPhone 7 is not released yet.

There should not be a fee if paying full price up front (not installments).

This may be an error.

Unfortunately its not. I looked into this. If you order a Verizon phone directly from Apple, even if you pya full price, you get the $20 upgrade fee. The only way to avoid it is to get the SIM free version

That's rediculous.

If I were buying an iPhone, I would buy the Verizon version as it's unlocked and has all bands.  But I am on ATT, so why would I pay a $20 fee to Verizon.

Because the Verizon version comes with a Verizon SIM card. If you don't want to pay the $20 fee, simply wait until a version comes out which is not tied to a carrier.
