As a consumer myself, I know that it's vital to get the best value for your dollar. I want to do everything I can to keep you in the Verizon family. While FamilyBase does come at an additional charge each month, we do provide some awesome free tools that can help monitor/manage your data usage each month: http://vz.to/2cmn9Hk. Additionally, we have introduced a new feature called Safety Mode (http://vz.to/2dGCKIa) with our New Verizon plan that eliminates overages altogether. Safety Mode is a totally free feature that you can enable. Have you checked out our new pricing plans quite yet?

geenowalker We understand the need to have the ability to manage data usage. we're glad to discuss your options. Although you feel as though this service should be free, there is a charge for adding Family Base which allows this function. Since you do not want to pay for the service, you are able to monitor data usage by logging into My Verizon:  http://vz.to/1WlpDaO . What is the reason you're hesitant to purchase Family Base?

Because there is a cost.  There is no expense, its just a revenue generator built on top of my 400 bill.  Its only $5, but its the principal.  Its a service that can easily (and should) be provided.  Its bad enough that verizon wont give you the list of websites visited, which they can, but choose not to,  The product is not good, everyone else just sucks worse.  Waiting for my other two devices to come out of contract.

We definitely do not want to lose you over this. There is another option if you do not want to use Family Base. Check this out: http://vz.to/2e48e5v

Yes, be sure you have wifi enabled anyplace you go where there is wifi, then go in settings and select "Cellular." You can turn off cellular data for any apps where you don't really need it. I appreciated the verizon salesperson that showed me this feature.
