Scammed by the trade-in program

I saw the previous posts regarding the trade-in bait-and-switch scam that Verizon is currently promoting but still ignored them thinking my perfect condition phone (in a heavy case the entire time, no scratches) would be an exception. It wasn't.

My iPhone 8 was originally appraised for $850 credit as part of an iPhone 11 Pro promotion they were running. The final trade-in value was $64.

I thought this was illegal?

For anyone finding this thread, don't think you're the exception. No one should use this program and risk losing a perfectly good phone. Here's the DM answer from customer support below *admitting an error*, but still refusing to do anything about it. We sent them a perfectly working iPhone 8 — even with extremely minor screen damage they gave us a $64 credit. (screen replacement is $149).
