Trying to understand 5G usage with limited data plan...

I want to ask how does 5g work if I buy iPhone 12 (which I cant as long as I have to use extender) and I have a plan now that is 8GB and  not unlimited?  If I was to be in an area that has true 5G wouldnt the 8GB get used in minutes or even seconds?  I guess I dont know how much more it would cost me to use a 5G phone.

In other words, if I dont want to pay a penny more than I am now paying, can I assume I would not be able to use 5G or if I did my 8 GB data limit would disappear in minutes or seconds?  And if you go unlimited is it throttled?  If you have a 5G phone and limited data, you would need to keep the phone off of 5G I assume?  You can turn 5G off, right?

Looking at pricing, if I go from my 8gb plan to unlimited my bill would go up from about $110 to $160.  I cant use the 12 anyway due to our area, we have to use an extender and so far there is no extender that will work if your phone has 5g on it, unless Verizon has developed one now?

UW 5G is only available on unlimited plans so it wouldn't be available with your 8GB plan. User complaints about nationwide 5G mentioned 4G was faster. If you do get a 12, switch to 4G and don't worry about 5G yet.

Edit time here is ridiculously short.

According to everyone who posts here who has an extender and iPhone 12, even turning 5g off doesnt work, the phone will not connect to the extender.

So since we must have access to the extender, we cant have a 12.  Sure, Wi-Fi calling works and theoretically it should resolve the need for an extender, but i have had issues with that also that may have been linked to my comcast gateway router and that issue may now be resolved, but I cant risk it though I could test it for a few days and see I guess.

To test it I have to unplug the extender from power, each time I do that I worry it wont reconnect for a number of reasons, GPS and others.  It's really terrible to be 2 miles from downtown of a major city and find out NONE of the phone companies work in a two block radius but 3 blocks away there is 4 bars.

Randys12, making sure I have the details of the 5G services before I purchase a 5G device is vital. I will be more than happy to assist. The 5G data does allow you to use data pretty quickly, so if you stay on the 8 GB plan I would recommend using Safety Mode to avoid overage. Also, if you are in a rual area, the 5G services will only be available when you travel to a covered location. Keep in mind, you have the option to change your plan at anytime just in case your data usage increases. I have supplied a few links to the details of coverage, plan change options, and Safety mode. Did I explain this okay? https://www.verizon.com/coverage-map/  https://www.verizon.com/support/how-to-change-your-plan/  https://www.verizon.com/support/safety-mode-faqs/

Any update to the 5G extender issue?

I want to get the new iPhone 12 but cant unless I can use it with an extender.  Willing to buy a new extender.

I see this is NOT the thread where this is being discussed, so you can ignore my question unless there is good news!

Thanks for getting back with us. We don't yet offer a 5G Network Extender. However, I have a solution for you. Because phones have become more advanced, a Network Extender is no longer needed. Instead of using your WiFi signal for data only, you are able to use it for voice calls, too. WiFi Calling is a great indoor solution, it's unlimited, and it's free. Check out the details here: http://spr.ly/6607HgNMZ

WiFi calling calls drop after 10 minutes give or take...others have reported the same thing.  Dont know if it is Comcast router or Verizon or what, but that was the first thing I tried.

WiFi assist is turned off, still does it.  Turn airplane mode on so the cellular cant try and kick in, still does it.
