Last time my husband allowed a carrier update (last time he completed an IOS update) on his iPhone SE, it seemed to mess up the ability of the ios Messages app to recognize contact phone numbers. If he has a contact with phone # entered as (123)456-7890 , it shows in Messages as 1234567890, with no contact name associated. The only way I've found to adjust this is to MANUALLY add, for each contact for whom he has received a message, that phone number (even though that phone # is really already in there). I've seen things about turning on / off short names, SMS messaging, running a network settings reset, etc. None of it works, and having to touch each message is a PITA.
This didn't happen to me. I have the same phone, and am also on Verizon.
Anyone AT VERIZON know why his phone thinks a phone # without special characters/formatting is different than one with ?
