When I try to set up my voicemail box for my new landline, the system refuses to recognize my phone number.
When I visit the Verizon web page to set up voicemail, it says "Voice Mail is already on your phone line, but the mailbox needs to be set up." So there the web site at least seems to recognize my number (enough to know that fact).
But then the web page says: "Dial your Voice Mail access number, 1.888.234.6786 or you can dial *86 from your home phone." But I sadly cannot in fact dial *86 from my home phone: I get a "This call cannot be completed as dialed" recorded message. And when I dial the other number, it asks me to input my phone number, & then it tells me that it doesn't recognize that number.
I can't get past that problem.
How can I get the Verizon voicemail system to recognize my home phone number & set up my voicemail box?
