Verizon's 5G Home Internet requires Ultra Wideband (C-Band, and/or Millimeter Wave, maybe CBRS in the future) signals to be available, and there needs to be enough tower capacity in your area to support Home Internet. The 5G you see may just be the Low Band 5G / Dynamic Spectrum Sharing 5G that is helping Verizon's network transition from LTE/4G.
The phone service still runs over 4G. Until Verizon turns on the 5G core and enables Standalone 5G service, the phone will only use 5G for data.
