New Iphone 5c just bought today, once I open an app I can't get out of it. I have to power down the phone to get to the home screen again? Anyone know what to do?

Ive done a soft reset. I don't know if the home button is messed up or what. Im aggravated though! I want to play with my new phone!

You should be able to double tap the home button and swipe it straight UP off your screen.

I try to do that and the app still stays open full screen. My iphone 4, after I did the ios 7 I would have to double tap and swipe it up to close the apps so it wouldnt be constantly running in the background. I also would get out of the app by pressing the home button one time. The app would close and I would be at my home screen. Also, when I have a black screen with my old phone, I would just hit the home button and it would awaken the phone. Now I have to push the power button to awaken it. Something doesn't seem right...I can't be that much different from my old iphone.

jbear72, thanks for these details. Do you press the home button to revert back to the home screen? To access the application again, you will need to double tap the home button on your device. You will be provided with a smaller screen shot of all the applications that you have open. You can scroll through the screen shots and tap the application to access it again. Keep us posted.

I had to drive 35 miles back to the store and I found out the phone had a faulty home button. They didn't have my color phone in stock so I had to drive another 15 miles to another town and explain the whole situation again. They had my color phone and took my defective one. Got it home and it works great! The only bad part is I wasted a screen cover on the old phone! He took a new screen cover out of my bag and put it on the new phone! I thought he would at least throw in a new one for all the trouble I had to go through! I am relieved the phone is perfect! Thanks for all the suggestions. I really appreciate the brain storming!
