My iphone 5 has been lost or stolen. Is there a way that verizon can locate my phone?

As mentioned by Snn5, the key is to have Find My iPhone turned on via the device. If you did have it enabled, this will render the phone useless and you will be able to locate it or locate the device's last location (before the battery died) if you had that feature toggled on. Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone > toggle on "Send Last Location"
