2 questions about 1x service

2 Questions: I live in an area entirely covered with LTE and 3G service, but I still sometimes see 1x service on my phone. Is this normal? And 2nd, I've read that in 1x service, if  you are receiving cellular data you cannot also get a phone call. Is this the case? If I am receiving an iMessage or email while in 1x service, cannot I not get a phone call?

And, while data and voice cannot be used at the same time on 1x, a phone call will normally take presidence over the data needed for an iMessage!
