Why am I being charged a $20 activation fee when I buy an iPhone 7 at full price from the Apple store? Isn't this a case of the customer bringing their own equipment?
Solved! Go to Correct Answer
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your activation, Shayna Atkinson. Welcome to the Verizon Wireless family. The activation fee is the initial setup fee that covers the costs of getting you into all of the systems and network elements. I know that I never enjoy paying fees either, but this is a one time fee that you only pay when a new line of service is activated. Because of this, you'll never have to pay it again. I hope this information answers your question. Have a great day.

....."covers the costs of getting you into all of the systems and network elements". Huh? What system and elements? I also just ordered the 7Plus from Apple's website and will be charged $20 from Verizon. I will put my sim into the new phone and there isn't one speck of work on Verizon's part. I bought my current iPhone from Apple in March and wasn't charged for that. I've been a customer since 1993 so Verizon has all of my info. This isn't right!
This is a crock of garbage. There's should be a class action lawsuit for this. If your line is already activated and you just insert the sim into your new phone.... verizon hasn't done anything. That's how phones work, so why is there a charge?
When you don't buy the phone at retail and do monthly financing, it doesn't matter if wasn't purchased through Verizon. You agreed to those fees when you signed off on the phone. All carriers have upgrade fees and do financing instead of contract these days.
Don't want an upgrade fee? Buy your phone retail.
