After installing ios 5.0 I have noticed that calendar reminders for an all day event now start at 9 am instead of 12 am under ios 4.0. I can't find any way to set it for 12 am. Has anyone got a solution to this ?

That default is set by the regional settings, try changing them up.
Settings > General > International

Can you get calendar reminder to buzz you to remind you of anything? How does that work?

This isn't a fix but an option you can use. Instead of setting it as All Day you can set it to a timeframe. Then you can set the alert time to whatever time you want it to start. If you want it to appear all day then you can set the time from 12:00 am - 11:59 pm, which would in essence be the same as all day.
