Calling Verizon and Answers Here are Different RE: Selling iPhone 5s

I read other discussions here in which the person upgraded their phone to the new 5s. Whatever the reason, they want to sell the iPhone 5s.

The question, does the 5s need to be activated on the line from which it was upgraded before it can be sold or can it be sold without activating?

The answer here says the phone needs to be activated on the line from which it was upgraded and then it can be sold but a new SIM will need to be provided. I saw a couple of discussions stating this.

I called VerizonWireless twice and two different agents said, there is no need to activate the phone first.

So who is correct? I upgraded and accepted the 2 year contracts just so i could get the new iPhone 5s and sell them (probably on eBay). I don't want the purchaser to have any issues activating the phone.

I need an official answer as keeping the phone sealed will probably get me more money. Smiley Happy
